Learn Which Preposition to Use with Adjectives

If you have trouble with prepositions, you're not alone! This lesson will help you learn the correct preposition to use with an adjective. It will follow the structure:

Some examples of this structure are below:

Look at each group of three sentences below. For each group, choose which preposition below fits all three sentences correctly. For example, the same preposition can be used for example a), b), and c).

to / about / of / at / on / with / for

a) They are aware ______ the problem.

b) He’s very proud ______ his success.

s) The movie is based ________ a book.

u) I don’t want to be dependent _______ my parents anymore.

The answers are given below. Other common adjectives used with each preposition are also added:

  • a - c = "of": aware of / proud of / tired of / aware of / capable of / afraid of / jealous of

  • d - f = "for": ready for / responsible for / suitable for / thankful for / sorry for / famous for

  • g - i = "about": excited about / sure about / curious about / happy about / worried about

  • j - l = "with": disappointed with / satisfied with / impressed with / annoyed with / pleased with
